Intermediate Accountant (Based in Burnaby, BC, Canada)

We are looking for a motivated Intermediate Accountant who will be responsible for the accurate and timely management of the full cycle of the accounting process, including taxation and group transactions at Cotecna North America.

We specialize in on-site supervision, sampling, and quality control for shipments moving through the Port of Vancouver.

What you’ll do

Accounting Transactions: Manage all accounting transactions, particularly AP and AR management.
General Ledger Maintenance: Record transactions in Navision, maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Banking process: Process banking payments and reconciliations, ensuring all financial transactions are properly documented.
AR/AP Reconciliation: Proactively communicate and reconcile balances with customers and vendors by preparing AR/AP reports, resolving discrepancies, and updating records.
Intercompany Reconciliation: Perform monthly intercompany account reconciliations to ensure accurate consolidation and reporting.
Financial Processes: Complete month-end closing, support with reforecasting, and budgeting activities.
Statutory Reporting: Compile and submit statutory financial statements and reports to government authorities, auditors, and company management within required deadlines.
Tax Support: Support provincial tax authorities, the CRA, and coordinate with subcontractors for tax- related documentation and preparation.
Audit Support: Support internal and external audits by providing accurate and timely financial records and documentation.
Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, activity reports, expense reports, and perform variance analysis, as requested by the Finance Manager.
Policy Compliance: Ensure all accounting policies and procedures comply with group guidelines and external audit requirements.
Collaboration: Work closely with the finance team of North America and business managers on financial tasks, providing insights into financial performance.
Additional Duties: Perform other finance-related duties as assigned by the Finance Manager, as required by business needs.
Confidentiality: Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner.

What we’re looking for

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant accounting experience.
Certifications: CPA/CMA/CA certification.
Knowledge: Familiarity with Navision/SAP or similar accounting software is preferred.
Industry Experience: Previous experience in a similar industry is advantageous

Technical Skills we looking for?

Accounting Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Accounting (GAAP)/Finance Reporting Standards (IFRS), accounting regulations and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, understanding of account analysis, account reconciliation, and AR/AP processes.
Analytical Ability: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a keen ability to interpret and analyze financial data.
Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in financial records and reporting.
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel, experience with accounting software (SAP, Navision).
Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently. Highly organized with excellent prioritization skills, able to handle urgency and respond promptly. Able to work with minimal supervision and perform effectively under pressure.
Communication: Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across the organization and with external providers.
Confidentiality: Proven ability to handle sensitive information discreetly and maintain confidentiality.
Language Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
