Accountant - US Finance (Based in Burnaby, BC, Canada)

We are looking for a motivated Accountant (Full-time, Permanent) to join our growing USA finance team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment where accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement are valued.

Cotecna Canada, based in Vancouver, plays a key role in supporting trade, ensuring the safety and efficiency of global supply chains. We specialize in on-site supervision, sampling, and quality control for shipments moving through the Port of Vancouver.

What you’ll do:

Manage all accounting transactions, particularly AP and AR management.
Complete month-end closing, support with reforecasting, and budgeting activities.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Process banking payments and reconciliations, ensuring all financial transactions are properly documented.
Perform monthly intercompany account reconciliations to ensure accurate consolidation and reporting.
Compile and submit statutory financial statements and reports to government authorities, auditors, and company management within required deadlines.
Support provincial state authorities, IRS, and coordinate with subcontractors for tax- related documentation and preparation.
Support internal and external audits by providing accurate and timely financial records and documentation.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, and perform variance analysis, as requested by the Finance Manager.
Ensure all accounting policies and procedures comply with group guidelines and audit requirements.
Work closely with the finance team and business managers on financial tasks, providing insights into financial performance.
Perform other finance-related duties as assigned by the Finance Manager, as required by business needs.
Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner.

What we’re looking for:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
5 years of experience in an accounting role within a professional organization.
CPA/CMA/CA certification is an asset.
Familiarity with Navision/SAP or similar accounting software is preferred.
Previous experience in a similar industry is advantageous.

Technical Skills we are looking for:

Strong knowledge of Accounting (US GAAP)/Finance Reporting Standards (IFRS), accounting regulations and procedures, understanding of account reconciliation, month-end closing, and AR/AP processes.
Advanced proficiency in Excel, experience with accounting software (SAP, Navision).
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Proven ability to handle sensitive information discreetly and maintain confidentiality.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
